Church of Uganda is pleased to announce that 29th September 2024 will be observed across the Province as Uganda Christian University (UCU) Sunday.

UCU Sunday was approved by the Board of Trustees/House of Bishops in 2017 and passed by the Provincial Assembly of Church of Uganda to mobilize support for UCU on every last Sunday of September every year.

Over the years, collections from UCU Sunday have helped to achieve the following:

1. Establishment of UCU School of Medicine and Dentistry: This milestone has enabled UCU to train medical professionals who are making significant contributions to healthcare in Uganda and beyond.

2. Training of Clergy from the Main Campus and Mbale Campus: This initiative has provided clergy with advanced theological education, enhancing their capacity to serve their congregations effectively.

3. Infrastructural Developments for UCU Constituent Colleges: Including Mbale, Arua, BBUC, and Main Campus. These developments have improved the learning environment and expanded the university’s ability to accommodate more students.

4. Tuition Support for Clergy’s Children: So far, 40 children of clergy members have benefited from this support, enabling them to pursue higher education without financial burden.

5. Capacity Building for the Clergy: Seventeen Dioceses have been visited for capacity-building programs, equipping clergy with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective ministry.

For 2024, collections will be allocated to:

1. Infrastructural Development: Continued improvements and expansions of UCU facilities.

2. Tuition Support for Clergy Children: Ensuring more clergy children have access to quality education.

3. Training for Clergy: Providing ongoing theological and pastoral training for clergy across the province.

Guidelines for the Province:

1. Congregations are encouraged to offer prayers for the administration, staff, and students of UCU.

2. All collections made during UCU Sunday services should be remitted to Uganda Christian University to support its operations and development.

3. Dioceses are requested to share information about UCU’s programs and activities to enhance its visibility and reach.
