Bishop Stephen Namanya set to retire, Archbishop Kaziimba commends him for visionary leadership

KIRUHURA: As the Bishop of North Ankole Diocese, Rt Rev Stephen Namanya, sets to retire on 26th May 2024, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has commended him for his visionary leadership that has transformed the twenty-year old Diocese.

Archbishop Kaziimba who arrived in the Diocese on Friday 2nd February for his official pastoral visit, toured a number of Diocesan projects. Notable visits included the Kakyera beef farm which has 320 cows, the Clergy pension house, Kanoni Bible College, Rushere Model Primary School, a 15 million litre water dam, and the North Ankole Mission Hospital set to house two theatres, male and female wards, special clinics, a pediatric ward, and a pharmacy.

Archbishop Kaziimba also visited the Deanery and Bishop’s ranches, the Early Child Development Center at the Cathedral, and the North Ankole Platinum SACCO in Rushere town and Kazo Branch. The SACCO, initiated in Rushere town in 2017, has 3,236 members, shares totaling to 559.6M, and a loan portfolio of 1.1Bn.

Other notable projects visited included Buremba Secondary School, Bishops’ Girls Secondary School, and North Ankole Technical Institute—a future Polytechnical University in the Diocese’s plans, aiming at providing practical training and educational courses at the degree level.

Archbishop Kaziimba expressed deep appreciation for Bishop Namanya’s active involvement in the House of Bishops, highlighting his crucial role in decision-making and formulating key policies for the Province of the Church of Uganda.

He concluded his official pastoral visit today with a radio talkshow on Radio 5 and Sky TV, and a Holy Communion Service at Emmanuel Cathedral, Rushere
