Today, I was delighted to commission a magnificent structure built by South Rwenzori Diocese through the Kagando Rural Development Center for Uganda Christian University Kagando University College.

This will elevate Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery to train more skilled health professionals.

I also visited Kagando Hospital, a Church of Uganda founded hospital. I was impressed by the work they are doing. I was however disappointed to learn that the government withdrew a number of Doctors and other highly qualified personnel from this hospital and other Health Facilities within the Diocese. There are special cases like these hard to reach areas that need to be supported. I call upon the Ministry of Health to urgently address this matter.

Earlier in the day, I commissioned a theatre at Nyabugando Health Centre built by Robert and Jane Schiller through a local organization, KAMP Optimist to support South Rwenzori Diocese to reduce child mortality rates. The building housing the theatre was named after Jane who recently went to be with the Lord.

Later, I visited Rwentuntu Parish to observe strategies for food security. I was taken to a cassava plantation where Bishop Nason Baluku informed me that this cassava cannot be affected by any virus. This is one of their 56 mother gardens. I also commissioned St Andrew’s Rwentuntu Parish Nursery School.

I concluded the second day of my official pastoral visit in South Rwenzori Diocese with a courtesy prayer visit to the Bishop’s Office and interacting with the Diocesan Secretariat Staff. I charged them to uphold Christian values, integrity and to always work as a team.
