BUSHENYI – Saturday June 17th, 2023: The Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, Rt Rev Johnson Twinomujuni has revealed plans by the Diocese to construct a specialized hospital in Bushenyi- Ishaka Municipality at Katungu near the West Ankole Diocese Mothers’ Union Centre.
Bishop Twinomujuni made the revelation today while giving the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu a guided tour of the current Katungu Mission Hospital which will be upgraded to a specialized referral hospital.
According to Mr. Winston Katushabe, the Commissioner for transport regulation and safety in the Ministry of Works and Transport who is spearheading this project, the specialized hospital will be a referral centre for various health units as well as providing quality health services that are more accessible, affordable and acceptable to all people especially the mothers, youth and children.
“The Hospital Facilities will include: The chapel with seating capacity 500 persons, Public Centre with a canteen, gift shops, resource centre, business centre, bank ; and a child care centre, OPD building with Main records centre, Registry, various labs and diagnostic spaces, the Emergency Area , specialist clinic plaza, pharmacy; meeting spaces; and patient waiting lounges.” Mr Katushabe said.




He added, “The specialized hospital will also have an Administration block, specialist eye, renal and heart units, In Patient Zone (Maternity ward, female ward, pediatric ward, Male, VIP wards, Theater complex, intensive Care Unit (25 bed unit), Service block, 1( kitchen and stores), Services block 2 ( workshop, laundry, general stores and a Mortuary.”
Mr. Katushabe said that the specialized hospital will have a Waste management zone (incinerator, waste treatment plant , oxygen plant and general waste zone), Power station and standby power area and Staff accommodation (120 key staff), Parking (min 250 cars).
Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba commended the Diocese for focusing on improving focusing on providing better and affordable healthcare to its people and called upon well wishers to support this project.
Earlier in the day, he visited the Diocese’s Jubilee SACCO in the heart of Bushenyi town which he enrolled as a member and called for intentional saving culture especially among Church ministers.




According to Mr Jonas Tumwine, the Chairman Board of Directors, the SACCO was established to empower people economically and currently has 12,143 members, 48 Staff, Assets of 12.9Bn, Savings of 7Bn and share capital of 2.8Bn.
Archbishop Kaziimba later visited Katungu Mothers Union facilities, Bishop McAllister College in Kyongyera where he commissioned the construction of Music facilities, Ankole Western University, Kabwohe Archdeaconry and Rwabutura Archdeaconry.
At Kabwohe Archdeaconry headquarters, Archbishop Kaziimba called upon Christians to embrace Church of Uganda’s policy, protocol and procedure while seeking to have a Diocesan Status and took them through the entire process.
He also paid a courtesy visit to the homes of Hon Dickson Kateshumbwa in Nyabushera and Canon Apollo Mutungi the proprietor of Quality Supermarkets in his country home in Rwagasha, Kyeizoba Sub-county in Sheema District.
