Church of Uganda, Equity Bank Discuss Strategies for Self-Sufficiency

CHURCH HOUSE – KAMPALA: The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has today held a business meeting with the Managing Director of Equity Bank Uganda, Mr. Anthony Kituuka and the Bank’s top leadership team at their Headquarters in Church House in Kampala and laid strategies for enhancing the Church’s self-sustainability agenda.

Archbishop Kaziimba who was accompanied by the Provincial Secretary, Rev Canon William Ongeng; Provincial Treasurer, Mr Balaam Muheebwa; Director of Education Services, Rev Dr Paul Kakooza; Director of Household and Community Transformation, Rev Andrew Agaba and representatives from Church Commissioners Holding Company Ltd commended the role of Equity Bank in Church of Uganda’s growth.

“This morning, I led the Provincial Secretariat Management team in a productive discussion with Equity Bank Uganda. Together, we explored strategies to fulfill our vision of a faster growing, sustainable, Christ-centered Church. Equity Bank plays a crucial role in our financial independence journey, starting with the rental income from Church House. They are our reliable and dependable banking partners.” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

He added, “I am grateful that the Bank’s top leadership appointed Mr. Anthony Kituuka as the Managing Director of Equity Bank Uganda together with his Executive Directors; Elizabeth Mwerinde Kasedde and Kenneth Onyango. All these are Christians who are passionate about the growth of this working relationship between the Bank and Faith based Institutions.”

Archbishop Kaziimba commended Equity Bank for being the anchor tenant at Church House, currently occupying 8 floors and implored them to take up more remaining 5 floors which the Bank leadership said they are willing to engage.

Mr. Anthony Kituuka, Equity Bank Uganda’s Managing Director reiterated the commitment by the CEO and Managing Director of Equity Group, Dr James Mwangi for the Bank’s support to Church of Uganda in every aspect of social economic transformation.

He expressed gratitude at the Bank’s current working relationship with the Church and pledged support towards its self-sustainability agenda.

“When I visited Uganda Martyrs Museum Namugongo on 3rd June 2023, I was impressed by the developments there. Equity Bank has been supportive in extending credit to fill gaps before government funds are released, to reach this level. We are committed to adding you more funds to ensure that the vision of the Late Archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo of turning Namugongo into a world class faith tourism center is achieved.” Mr Kituuka said.

“There is a lot we can achieve by working closely together. The Bank is rapidly growing and we are broadening our market base in Uganda by availing resources for commercial agriculture, Insurance, Business and many other aspects.
