Hamilton Telecom, Mastercard in Strategic Talks to Advance Digital Transformation in Uganda

Hamilton Telecom Group, led by its Chairman, Mr. John Mukalazi Kamya, has today held a high-level strategic meeting with a delegation from Mastercard, headed by Mr. Victor Ndlovu, Vice President for Business Development, Mastercard East Africa, at the Hamilton Telecom Head Offices in Kololo, Kampala.

The meeting focused on accelerating Uganda’s digital transformation through innovative card-based financial solutions that will make transactions easier, faster, and more affordable for ordinary Ugandans.

Mr. Ndlovu said, Mastercard is committed to working with local partners like Hamilton Telecom to expand access to financial technology and reduce the heavy transaction costs that come with traditional mobile money and banking services.

“Our goal is to give people greater liberty to use their money to make purchases, without being burdened by the high charges associated with alternative payment methods ,” Mr. Ndlovu said..

The Chairman of Hamilton Telecom, Mr. John Mukalazi Kamya noted that the partnership aligns with Hamilton Telecom’s mission to promote financial inclusion, digital empowerment, and local innovation across communities.

“This partnership opens new doors for Uganda’s digital economy. Together, we can create smart, affordable, and accessible solutions that empower families, small businesses, and communities to thrive,” Mr. Kamya said.

Hamilton Telecom, the parent company of Paxtel, Agrotel, Salamtel, and other enterprises continues to play a leading role in leveraging technology to drive social and economic transformation across Uganda.

Mr. Otaremwa Otuhumurize, the Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Telecom, revealed that the company has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with key religious institutions to digitize their entire ecosystems.

“We have so far signed MoUs with the Church of Uganda and the Uganda Episcopal Conference to digitize their schools, hospitals, workplaces, and related institutions. Through Agrotel, we also aim to ease the mobilization of farmers and introduce innovative agricultural practices that improve productivity and sustainability.” Mr. Otaremwa said

According to Otaremwa, the strategic partnership with MasterCard marks a significant step toward a cash-lite economy that supports inclusive growth and gives Ugandans more control over how they transact in an increasingly digital world.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Michael David Nsereko, Mastercard’s Country Representative in Uganda; Mr. Morgan Gyaviira, Corporate Legal Secretary of Hamilton Telecom; Mr. Baldwin Okello Koko, Head of the Technical Team; Mr. Agaba Michael Kasheka, National Sales Director; and Mr. Sadiiki Adams, Communications Officer of the Church of Uganda.
